Based in Boulder, Colorado, USA

As a storyteller and media maker, Bergen Backes is passionate about videography and video editing. With a degree in Media Production with a concentrated focus on documentary production, complemented by a minor in Journalism, she has cultivated her skills over eight years, mastering Adobe Creative Cloud to create captivating visual narratives.

Her academic journey was a blend of creative exploration and technical skills, using Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom. Through coursework, Backes has created short documentary films, music videos, and broadcast journalism packages. Meanwhile, her photography projects range from portraits capturing the Boulder community to immersive photo essays documenting religious landscapes across the globe. As an alumni of Semester at Sea, she used her experiences aboard the ship to create engaging social media content and produce impactful documentaries. With each project, Backes strives to showcase the world through her lens, piecing together narratives that inspire and spark meaningful conversations.

Backes graduated in December 2024 from CU Boulder with a B.A. of Arts in Media Production and a minor in Journalism. She is currently employed as a video editor and social media content producer at the CU Boulder Office of Academic Learning and Innovation.
